In 1999 Brendan Fitzsimons, owner of Fitz-Coatings Limited (FCL), formed a business relationship with Andre Deere – Managing Director of Marine Publications Limited (MPI).
This venture was formed to publish and promote Fitz’s Atlas of Coating Defects. Fitz’s Atlas rapidly gained widespread success, with more than 0.5 million sales during the following 25 years. Following this success, several more books and apps were developed, and they are widely used throughout the Global coatings industry, a testament to our Global impact and reach.
Who we are
Established in 2007, the number of accredited courses offered globally by the Corrodere Academy has increased 10-fold. As we develop as a company and expand our global network, we are only growing stronger as we partner with an increased number of credible partnerships giving you the reassurance that our courses are supported and reviewed by only the highest standards. We have developed a number of world-first training programmes and qualifications specifically for Train the Painter Coatings Applicator course, ICorr Accredited Coatings Inspector course and Protective Coatings Specialist. As we continue to add to our coatings course calendar and enrich our service to you, we work with our team to bring new innovative courses to the Corrodere calendar. We hope that these will be of interest to any budding coatings specialist, novice or expert.

Working together
In 2008 MPI and FCL formed a Joint Venture (JV) to promote Coatings Applicator training in the U.K. Today, this program is used in 23 Countries and is available in 15 languages.
The JV journey (initially focused on training for Protective Coating Application, Abrasive Blast Cleaning and Spray Painting).
This commitment led the JV to expand its services, developing additional application training courses for thin film intumescent, concrete coating, marine coatings, water jetting, thermal spray application, powder coatings and plural component equipment, allowing us to provide further to support various industry sectors.
Additionally, in 2008, in conjunction with the above, the JV created the first online Coating Inspectors Course.
This program obtained approval from Lloyds Register, meeting the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC). Subsequently, the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) accredited the Coating Inspector Courses to meet Levels 1, 2, and 3 requirements. ICorr also reviewed and certified additional inspection Courses, including Insulation, Hot Dip Galvanising, Thermal Metal Spray, and Fire Protection.
Furthermore, the JV developed specialist courses in coatings and corrosion, namely the recognised Diploma in Corrosion Control using Protective Coatings, Coating Surveys, Corrosion Management and Corrosion Under Insulation.
These courses have expanded our contributions to meet our industry demands further.
Who we are
The MPI Group is a publishing, training and marketing company that has been involved in the marine industry since 1981.
The MPI Group was originally formed to publish the well respected ship repair, maintenance and conversion magazine Drydock, which it still does to this day. Since those early days The MPI Group has produced a number of publications and delivered many training courses. This has given the group an impressive list of contacts and a detailed knowledge of the industry.
