One of the most commonly used standards to evaluate coating degradation is the ISO 4628 series. This standard has ten sections: nine assessments and one introduction and designation system.

With regards to the assessment of protective coatings, four parts are used extensively in most industries:


ISO 4628-2: Assessment of degree of blistering

ISO 4628-2: Assessment of degree of blistering Paints and varnishes. Evaluation of degradation of coatings. Designation of quantity and size of defects, and of intensity of uniform changes in appearance.
